The large number of over 2,000 customers worldwide who use our solutions for transportation planning and traffic engineering issues proves that the PTV Vision software products have established themselves as the standard in this sector. The traffic management centre of Mongolia’s capital Ulaanbataar has also joined our user community and has chosen the PTV Vision software system for planning and optimising its road transport. Thus, Mongolia is the 100th country which now uses our transportation planning software.
Ulaanbataar: Status Quo
Knowing little about Mongolia, some might imagine Ulaanbataar to be more rural. The steppe characterizes the imaginary image of the city. But with 1.19 million inhabitants, constituting one third of the country’s population, the capital is rapidly growing and, like other cities too, struggles with a common problem: the streets of Ulaanbataar are ruled by jams. The calls for new streets and bridges are getting louder. But is it actually necessary to build them? To analyze this situation, the traffic management centre has acquired VISUM and VISSIM, which perfectly combine strategic and operational planning.
The first project which is going to be implemented with the new software tool will focus on the optimisation of intersections. Moreover, it is planned to improve signal control systems and to generate a green wave. An integrated approach is very important to the traffic experts of Mongolia’s capital. Ochir-Erdene Demberel, head of traffic management at the traffic management centre of Ulaanbaatar, is convinced that the city will be able to solve numerous urban traffic and transportation issues without excessively expensive investments in construction and sees Ulaanbataar as a trendsetter for other industrial cities in Mongolia, initiating the deployment of software for transportation planning and traffic engineering.
